The ticket being n her backpocket indicates to me that she has a way off the island, the way off involves the walkie talkie, and that it is something she is keeping hidden (behind ahem rather than up front).

I just wanted to pull this out for further discussion from the Group 1 post. I have some ideas about Kate/Sawyer, but Jack is “?” for me.
Sawyer pulls a ticket from Kate’s backpocket and he has a cell phone (or possibly a walkie talkie?) in his other hand. Both those things are reinforcing the idea of Kate as the mole to me. Prof has mentioned (I believes) that the walkie talkie that Paulo had was last seen with Sawyer, and that if Sawyer had it, then Kate could have gotten it. The ticket being n her backpocket indicates to me that she has a way off the island, the way off involves the walkie talkie, and that it is something she is keeping hidden (behind ahem rather than up front).
Jack—made to take off his watch and prior to Ben “wanding” him—Jack has to “let go” of time? Of his connection to his father? Ben is manipulating him into letting go? I don’t fully know what any of that might mean. Thoughts?

I always thought there was definately more significance to that airport scene. This may have some answers in it, +1 from me.
Again, Jaz, excellent theory, I think the island is quite simply a machine. I have a theory about how you can’t divide by zero, but the producers have stated that they were no other dimensions, right? (I hope I am not confusing you). I think because you can’t divide by zero, there exists a smoke monster, if there are more than one dimensions.
To your theory jaz, yes after reading your theory I do believe that Kate is an “insider”. I need to see that vision again, but I never fully understood why he was having a vision of those people, or why he had to crawl up the escalator.
To end this comment, in the flash-forward, Kate was not in custody. Did she have a special deal with very powerful people? Why was Kate in Australia anyway? In the flash-forward, she did not want to go back to the island, because I think her mission was a success.
The radio is key.
lol, Prof, you’re like a dog with a bone about that radio. For your sake, I hope that’s solved this season!!
jaz, great subject to bring up! I’ve always thought there had to be some significance to that vision. I do need to watch it again, but I’m having a problem seeing Kate as the mole (if there is one). We’ve seen quite a bit of her past and nothing so far connects her to any of the key players that would put her in that position, unless the Marshall was a mole too.
+1 for now, but I’ll rewatch it and pop back in for more comment.
Very interesting concept JP. Man you’ve been busy girl lately cranking out excellent theory after excellent theory! I was thinking that a couple of things that stood out to me about Kate from the pilot episode might lend credence to your theory. Kate claimed she never lost consciousness during the crash while everyone else did - although the fact that the plane broke up at about 5,000 feet (based on the visual from the Other’s camp) there was no reason ANYONE would have passed out from the pressure change or lack of oxygen — but that’s knit picking.
Assuming everyone should have passed out, but Kate didn’t means she could have seen things on the island that no one else was allowed to witness. Add to that, that Kate appears in the jungle away from everyone else (ala Jack) and I begin to wonder if she might have been taken somewhere by Ethan and a deal struck ~ she’ll be allowed to leave the island and keep her freedom in exchange for helping the Others.
The only problem with this (and really with the entire idea of a “mole”) is that we’ve seen Kate alone with many of the Others - including Ben. Why hasn’t she let her guard down and confirmed the basis of any deal she may have made? If she was working with the Others she and Juliet would have had a very different exchange in the jungle when they were handcuffed together. This same line of reasoning could be extended to Locke, Sawyer and Jack and their individual encounters with members of the Others.
More to the point, if Kate was working with the Others they wouldn’t have needed to threaten to kill Sawyer to get her to convince Jack to operate on Ben. Simply threatening to withdraw from their deal would have been enough for such a meaningless task as talking to Jack. Hmmmm, I’m on the fence about the whole idea of a mole in the survivors camp - unless it was Libby. That theory still has legs IMO.
I’m flat out not buying Kate as a mole. However, on the airport vision basis, everything you point out may be true and indicate Kate’s status as ‘beholder of the radio’ and somehow in league with The Others. Crucially, not yet. It was an airport vision and perhaps displayed the signs of what may happen - and maybe Kate will get her hands on that radio and communicate with The Others in a duplicituous way to get her ‘ticket’ off the Island. . .
Sorry I should have given more information about what I was suggesting when I said Kate might be a “mole.” I don’t think she is a double agent for the others, but that she might be a contact for some off island group (probably opposed to the others) like Widmore. Some of the other things that tie in to that speculation are—the whole suggestion that one of the Losties might be “the Cobra” as in Nikki’s tv show; the fact that Kate plays backgammon against herself in the others’ gameroom (playing both sides); and Henry Gale’s note on the dollar bill (supposing that he also might be working for Widmore)—the note says “I owe you a beer” which is an anagram for “Iowa be our eye” (Kate being from Iowa).
re: Jack, One other thought I have is that for some reason the show has drawn attention to Jack being wanded—because he and Ana Lucia talk about her being the one who wanded him and then Ben does the same thing to him in the vision. Is this just a way of reinforcing the idea that there’s something which Jack has to “let go” of?
I guess one simple answer is that in light of what’s going on in the triangle, Ben is manipulating Jack into giving up Kate at this point.
It’s interesting that Ben is working security and the Smoke Monster has been referred to as a ‘security system’. Desmond surrounded by 3 women is interesting, but more significant I would say is that he appears to be the pilot. Will he be leading the journey off island in some way. Kate being ‘on the inside’ somehow is a good theory. Certainly the writers did not put in the line about the Cobra for nothing (although it is suspiciously more transparent than other clues they’ve given.) I just rewatched Looking Glass pt. 2 and noticed a few things: 1. Kate and Jack’s exchange at the airport. (p.s. why does she ‘know’ the place to meet at the airport, what significant has happened there between the two of them?)
JACK: I was hoping that you’d heard. That maybe you’d go to the funeral. KATE: Why would I go to the funeral?
Inititally most people read Kate’s response as disgust, as in “WHY would I go to this person’s funeral?” but try watching it under the assumption Kate has / is our “Cobra”. She seems guilty. As if to say “Why would you think I would go there? I don’t like that person, really I don’t.” In line with that, it’s interesting that Jack says “I was hoping you’d heard.” It is almost a celebratory choice of words. Even if he was excited to see Kate, it would be callous of him to say such a thing surrounding a funeral if it was a person they had cared about.
some other things (a.k.a. Tangent time!):
JACK: Because I wanted to crash, Kate. I don’t care about anybody else on board. Every little bump we hit or turbulence, I mean I, I actually close my eyes and I pray that I can get back.
It’s assumed from the performance that this is all one thought, but consider this:
JACK: Because I wanted to crash, Kate. I don’t care about anybody else on board. Every little bump we hit or turbulence,
Read: I don’t care about anyone else. I want to crash.
JACK: I mean I, I actually close my eyes and I pray that I can get back..
Read: I want to get back, I CLOSE MY EYES.
To me the eyes are more significant than the crash…..
by the same token, why does Jack pause when he says
JACK: No, I’m sick…… of lying.
As in perhaps Jack was about to confess an actual sickness (cancer?) but chickened out? Stretch - but possible.
Finally:
KATE: This is not gonna change.
Assumed to mean ‘this state of things is not going to change’, but in a show dealing with fate and time travel, Kate could potentially be saying ‘the way we have agreed, or have been instructed to play the following events out can not change.’ a la Desmond and not marrying Penny.
Sorry for Hijacking your post Jaz. I enjoy your thoughts.
Thanks WB! I especially liked your ideas regarding the lines “close my eyes” and “not going to change”—together they seem suggestive and fit in with the way other things have worked (as you say with Desmond).
(And I’m also a Baudrillard fan.)

HAH! Is zat you kit-kat? (or is it wtf?)
Jazzie! We have discussed the possibility of Kate being a mole before and I still can’t see it! While I do believe in the possibility of a “sleeper” being on “the island”, Kate is not clever enough to fulfill that role in my opinion. Yes, clever enough to avoid capture, but she doesn’t stand out as being capable enough to be involved in any espionage activities.
Great discussion and thoughts!
