This also finally adds credence to that horrible novel Bad Twin.

— Gman82

I’m a long time reader and a first time poster. Be gentle. Also before going any further, I want to warn you I will be letting the cat out of the bag on The Prestige. So if you haven’t seen it, do so, and don’t let me ruin it.

First off, kudos to wtfsignmeup & lostienumber23 and their theories for getting my brain cranking away. Secondly, This theory hopefully answers what the first incident was, what happened with Flight 815, and why the sky suddenly turned purple when the hatch blew. I agree with the Bilocation speculation that is going around at the moment.

Now if you have seen the Prestige this is a lot easier to explain. In the film there is a certain enigmatic character by the name of Nikola Tesla, whom is arguably the smartest man to have ever lived. He’s also the man who revolutionized electro-magnetism and was perhaps the first man to pave the way to Quantum Theory(even if he did not know it at the time). You can also thank the man next time you plug in your tv to watch Lost. The man invented AC power.

Some of his alleged inventions were a time travel device and a teleportation device. Now if you have seen The Prestige. the fictional representation of Tesla (played by none other than David Bowie) builds a teleportation device for both of the magicians. But it doesn’t teleport them. It duplicates them. Whether or not this duplication is made through time travel(it all depends on what theory of time travel to follow) is unclear but one cannot deny the alarming similarities with the latest footage of the Orchid Station.

In the video there are two things (at least) to take note of. The fact there are two number 15 rabbits and that Marvin Candle mentions something called the Casimir Effect, and the mentiong of a shift of -20. The Casamir effect is associated with many things: the potential to create zero point energy(which Tesla allegedly achieved) and the potential to stabilize wormholes and achieve speeds greater than the speed of light essentially amounting to Time Travel. Another film example I suggest is Primer which takes these theories quite seriously.

So what was the first incident? I think Dharma was working either on the Swan or Orchid(or both) and caused what I will call a time shift duplication on a massive scale. Instead of one rabbit being duplicated and by duplicated I mean the duplication of the rabbit from 20 minutes ago(as an example). This duplication was so massive that it duplicated every member of the Dharma Initiative on the island, including the polar bears(and who knows maybe a shark or two).

So yeah my theory is also so arrogant as to think it can answer for who the “Hostiles” are that Ben joins, but I feel it is substantiated in that very same episode(S3E20) by Ben when he says

This is where I came from. These are my people. The Dharma Initiative. They came here seeking harmony. But they couldn’t even co-exist with the island’s inhabitants. When it became clear that one side had to go, one side had to be purged, I did what I had to do. I was one of the people who was smart enough to make sure I didn’t end up in that ditch. Which makes me considerably smarter than you, John.”

He says purged and not killed. This also finally adds credence to that horrible novel Bad Twin. So if the Dharma Initiative duplicated themselves because of some Casamir effect caused by the Swan there would be one living in privilege on the compound and another living in the wild watching jealousy of their own selves living in paradise.

Keep note that I am not saying that Ben is duplicated, or his father ,or even someone like Horace Goodspeed. I only speak of those on the island during the incident. Anyway, I think this shows a possibility that the purge may have been much more ‘humane’ than anyone once thought.

I also feel that we have been giving clues to this via Locke’s history lesson on Backgammon as well as his Chess game. Perhaps the hostiles think the Dharma group have grown soft by trying to understand the island via technology. This seems to be the case when Locke tears into Ben before he goes to destroy the submarine about how if he really understood the island he would not have meat in the refrigerator. A big clue if you ask me and may indicate how Ben has drifted from the path. Not to mention having two versions of one individual representing their light and dark side is a damn cool idea.

So far I have addressed the initial incident and the purging; so what happened to Flight 815?

One of the most important reveals this season was in episode 3x18 when Naomi tells Hurley that Flight 815 had been found and that all of the passengers were dead.

There seems to be something amiss. It simply doesn’t check out. How could these guys be on the island and dead corpses in an airplane?

Well going back to the Prestige, when the magic trick is performed and a duplicate was made, the original would be secretly dropped under the stage into a water tank and forced to drown. You don’t want a bunch of your duplicates galivanting around town afterall.

So making the connection, when Desmond ‘nearly’ lets the hatch countdown to zero (2x23) I’m proposing that the Swan created the casamir effect fortunately off the island but coincendentally(kidding) getting Flight 815 in mid-air effectively duplicating it and tearing it in half with the electromagnetic discharge.

So we have one plane crashing on the island and the other crashing elsewhere but intact enough so as for the investigators to surmise there were no survivors.

And lastly, one thing we know for sure is that Ben was lying about the anomaly. The anomaly didn’t cut off their communication; Ben did. I would speculate that it’s a casimir doppler effect. We already know the island is rendered invisible in someway and it just throws us back into Tesla’s world.

Yes, I as soon as I saw the Orchid video I was instantly reminded of The Prestige! Although, I have to say I really hope that the show doesn’t take that route - it feels a little convoluted to me. I have always maintained the belief that the final explanation for what is going on will be much more simple than all that. I feel that artificially generated doubles would be a bit of a cop-out answer. But I give you a +1 anyway as your theory is still sound and your thoughs are coherent!

i like this theory , although i’m hoping it won’t end up like this. Just some additional thoughts that you could help me link with this theory :

    1) When Ben and the others saw the plane coming down, he sent ethan and goodwin to infiltrate them. Why?

    2) They also found out everything about the losties. Why?

Good theory.+1. I loved the Prestige.

I still think bi-location and duplication are getting mixed and i think we need to hold a summit on it :-)

Cool idea and thanks for the mention.

Awesome..both the movie and the theory!!! I like it. I don’t know if I want it to be the whole answer, but I like it! +1

Gman82, Welcome to the site! I was beginning to think that we were cursed due to the recent influx of mouth breathers. :)

A fantastic read and totally plausible theory. I tend to agree that Ben lied about the communications given the evidence so far.

Looking forward to more of your ideas.

Great first post Gman - Welcome to the group!!! I gave you a +1 for much the same reasons Hex did. It was refreshingly coherent, a good read, very well written and as sham just said we were beginning to worry!!!

I, however, do not subscribe to the clone theory. I just don’t see any indication this will be the answer to Lost. But, I thoroughly enjoyed reading your theory and I agree with you about Ben’s role. I, too, am looking forward to more of your theories.

I see that WTF experienced a little bi-location of her own.

Now you have to purge yourself. :)

She might be sleeping. It’s about 11 PM down under. I would hate to wake her with that annoying yell. :)

    Dear Gman82,

Welcome to the club, and a good first post. However, I hope the producers don’t go down this path, because it’ll open the doors to more questions and make things even more complicated. As Hexagon01 and others have pointed out, I also believe the final answer to the happenings on Lost will be a simple one.

Anyhow, you get a +1 from me. Your theory sure is interesting…

    Sham that is too funny!

Gman, excellent theory. When I read this I was reminded of Hugo Rune, a Robert Rankin character who wrote The Book of Ultimate Truths. Tesla is mentioned quite a lot in the Rankin books and it seems he was regarded as a bit of a mad scientist, with an interest in pseudoscience and the occult!

G-man; I tend to agree with everyone elses thoughts here. The writers have debunked “the clone theories”, but you make some very good observations with your theory, and it is well written! +1

Damn thats a long theory xD, very nicely done though…i was gnna watch that film on blu-ray on my ps3…turned out i couldnt cuz my friend has a jap PS3 which he could play american films on. my region wasnt :(

Hey GMan- I think you are on the right track…I like this theory. I did some research on Nikola Tesla and I too think N.Telsa’s work is connected to lost…scientifically speaking. It was his work that led to the Philidelphia Experiment and Montauk Project. Very Interesting stuff. Great Job!! +1

PS: Are you familiar with the Golden Ratio? (Fibonacci Sequence) Nikola invented the Tesla Coils (used in conducting electricity) These Coils are related to the Golden Ratio. Which is considered the perfect Sequence in Nature. It is found all through out Creation. Anyway, I think the numbers on the island are a symbolic representation for the Golden Ratio. It is connected to Time Looping and Teleporting.

Hey Gman; excellent ideas (although not new.) These ideas, including similarities to the movie “The Prestige,” were posted a week or so ago, shortly after the release of the Orchid video. Nevertheless, excellent observations. +1

Firstly, Ben says “purged” and not killed because saying he killed people would be owning up to murder, and he’s ‘not the bad guy’ after all.

    Secondly, what if Naomi is lying, what if it’s her story to say that they all were found to be dead from the crash? What if she lied to get them to doubt that they are being searched for and to trust the ship of the coast as their soul hope of getting home again. Yes there may have been two #15 bunnies, but we have no proof that there are more Losties than those currently flaunting themselves on that island with perfect hair and no sun burn! {I’m sorry but Bernard and Claire are just too damn white not to burn (I’m pretty pale I know these things!)}

GMan: I really like your style of writing. Dab makes a good point that the producers have debunked cloning, but your arguments are hard to disprove because they are written so well with plenty of plausible support. Kudos for being brave to take on a subject that is frought with so much controversy on this site. +1 from me

I’m with Shamballa - you need to post more.

Paintgirl: The numbers=Golden Rule hmmm, I need to read up on that - that has real possibilities. MrsSawyer wrote a post on 8/2 that dovetails with your idea: http://www.lost-theories.com/theories/2007/aug/02/just-six-numbers/

You get a +1 for being amazing! Cool idea man! I really didn’t like all of the theories about alternate time lines and Jack coming back as an “invisible friend” named jacob, to cryptically tell everyone NOT to answer naomis Ship. Its all rubbish to me, and the introduction of the Kashmir effect just makes a WHOLE lot of sense. It answers a ton of questions, like how Walt can be in places hes not meant to be in, or how everyone thinks the losties are dead. I really hope they find ekos Kashmir double because he was amazing! The only reason the writers killed him off was that he got in trouble with “The Man” in hawaii. Yeah Im still mad about that……..
