LOST-Theories.com

Hi everyone,

I’ve been reading up on many theories over the past couple of weeks (I just needed my LOST fix) and I find that many of them are quite interesting. Some of them got me thinking and I have thought of two that I think might be plausible, even though there isn’t really any hard evidence. I thought that I would just post my first two in the same thread, because I do not think that they are very long. (I tried to look up as many theories concerning these subjects, but I can’t recall anyone mentioning these, sorry if I am mistaken)

My first theory is about Michael’s return. I was listening to the new LOST podcast about Comic Con 2007 and they talked about Harold Perrineau returning as a member of the cast. That got me thinking. I was wondering if it might be possible for Michael and Walt to be on the boat we saw at the end of Season 3? I mean the boat they left on didn’t seem to have that long of a range and I don’t know if they could have gotten to the mainland on it. I think that it could be possible that if they saw a big boat like that, they wouldn’t think twice about getting on to get back home. I mean if you were stranded on an island for that long, wouldn’t you try to get in contact with the first other humans you saw? I realize that there isn’t any proof to this and that this is speculation, but I thought I’d at least mention it. I also read that he might be heading to the Orchid station, that might also be possible (I think it was TheManBehindtheCurtain that posted that).

Secondly, while reading theories on this site, I saw many of them concerning Eko’s death and why he had died. From what I could understand, a lot of people seem to say that Smokey killed him, because Eko failed to repent his sins. I don’t believe this is true. While watching the show, I have noticed a theme when characters die. It seems to me as though characters die when they come to terms with their inner conflict. For example, Charlie got over his drug problem and started a “family”, Boone got over his love of Shannon, Shannon finally felt accepted and truly loved, etc. As for Eko, he finally accepted what he had done and why he had done so. He did only what he had to do to survive and what he thought was best. Once again, no real proof, but it is just my feeling (the fact that Eko was my favorite character also doesn’t help :D).

Well I hope you guys enjoyed my first two theories. If I think of anything else well I’ll post more and I am truly sorry if I didn’t do my research properly and I am beating a dead horse with a broken stick (I thought I’d add that last part, because I think it’s funnier that way). Anyways, thanks for your time and I look forward to your response!

Awesome!! I love both the theories!

Nice idea about Mike and Walt. That makes perfect sense! I love it!

Cool death observations, to. Great theories!! +1

    LostandFound: welcome to the board!

You did a great job posting these first theories, and a +1 from me.

But as usual, I will let my sceptic side take over and give you some observations:

    1) Walt & Michael left the island on day 67, the naomi’s boat came on day 93. That would mean a difference of 26 days. It’s not possible to survive without food & water for more than 3-5 days, so I guess Michael would have been rescued long ago. And even then.. why would he come there? He’s considered there as a traitor! I don’t think he would want to show his face there so soon.

    2) What about Sun & Jin? They also came to terms with their inner conflict no?

Thanks for the input guys, I just thought that ,even though there seems to be a long time between Michael’s departure and the boat’s arrival, wouldn’t it still be possible, because of the time distortion that some people mentioned (I just don’t know if it could account for that much time). Also, it could be possible that Michael didn’t know the boat was returning to the island and that he thought he would just get back home, the characters on LOST don’t always seem to speak the truth.

As for Sun & Jin, I realize they May have come to terms with some problems, but maybe there is something else, like something with the baby. I don’t know yet. I had thought of this early on in the series and I thought I was wrong when Charlie didn’t die when he kicked the drugs, but they had more in store for him. Maybe it’s the same for Sun & Jin. Like I said, it’s not really hard evidence, but rather a feeling that I have.

    (p.s. that’s a reply to xiv’s comment)

    Dear LostandFound,

Welcome! Interesting theories, and you also get a +1 from me. However, I’d like to echo xiv’s observations…

Welcome aboard +1 I liked both of your theories, particularly the second one.

    Great first post!!

Welcome to our employers’ worst nightmare LostandFound!

I was thinking: the producers have said that the flashforward at the end of season 3 was not the end of the show, that the flashforwards will continue and we’ll see this other story playing out. I think it’s likely that Michael is returning as a season regular but not on the island in the story we’ve been following the past 3 seasons. I think he’ll be a season regular in the “future” story that we’ll be seeing unfold while also seeing the island story unfold. Does that make sense?

To summarize: there will be 2 storylines in season 4: the island and post-island. Michael will be a regular in the post-island storyline but not the island storyline.

When they said he was coming back. I automatically thought, Michael is coming back to the island. I hadn’t thought of the flash-fowards. I guess I didn’t make that connection, but that seems very likely since the producers have said they will be putting more flash-fowards in season 4.

I just had a question for you guys. For my theory about Michael to be true, the time distortion/delay would have to aaccount for that long abscense. Do you think it could be possible?

I also think, that even if Michael is a traitor, would he really just leave many people he’s come to know on an island, just because they think he’s are a traitor? Personally, I would try to get them rescued or something. At least, they might loathe me a little less. Just saying… because on the other hand you could also just want to lay low for a while, especially if you have killed people on that island.

    Dear LostandFound,

If there was time dilation on the island (ie time moved slower/faster relative to the outside world), it would explain Walt’s aging. Michael and Walt could have been off the island for weeks/months/years, but come back with only 26 days gone on the island.

However, in my opinion, Michael will only be used in the flash-forward sequences.

The thing is, Harold Perrineau has been confirmed as a series regular, so there should be quite a few flash forwards next season, OR he would have to return to the island…

L&F: I really like this theory! I believe this, too. ProfOzone and a couple of others have discussed these observations as well. Welcome and +1

Hammer: Great thoughts! I never thought of Michael being seen in the flashforwards, but it’s definitely a possibility.

Btw: I believe Walt’s growth spurt, is called puberty! Duh!

On the note of what part Michael will play. The producers said at comic-con that it would not be a flashback/forward cop out…he would be a part of the cast—meaning on the island. Someone asked a very specific question about it because they pulled fast ones like that in the past (like Boone coming back only in visions and flashbacks but making a big deal that he would be back on the show).

I think the theory still holds up about Michael and Walt. They left, somehow made it back “home,” and then decided to come back and “save” everyone. Could it be Dharma hooked up with Michael and offered to bring him back to sace everyone? Or Whitmore? Or Paik?

Whoever it was, the time could be made up by them making it home and then looking for a way to get back (like Jack wants to do in TTLG).

Actually, you can survive longer than 3-5 days. The human body can go as long as i think 8-10 days without water and even longer without food.

But regardless, it might only take 3-5 days to encounter another boat and get rescued.

I like the idea of Michael on Minkowski’s (thanks for that piece of detail Dab) boat - and what would be even more intriguing is if when that ship lands on the island if Michael, his body all bloody from a beating (interogation), isn’t shoved off of it at the feet of Jack proving Charlie’s warnign to Des that the boat is danger.

Someone wrote a great theory how S4 will open with a big fight scene between the island and Naomi’s crew from the boat. That could be cool, but somehow, I don’t think the plot will stay chronological…

XIV did you say sceptic or septic? If you have a septic side you need to see a doctor, now.

+1 I like the 2nd theory, but i have a different persepective on deaths on the island. My take on the deaths is as simple as what Locke first said regarding the issue. Locke seems to be the only person on the island that’s putting all the symblosim into actual words. It’s a sacrifice. The island demands a sacrifice in order to give a little hint or a little help. Boone - the airplane and the radio (part of it was going to be used on the raft. Shannon - one had to go for the tail section gang and Sawyer, Michael, and Jin to rejoin the group and for Sawyer to survive. Charlie - in order for for the group to push the button he had to drown.

Now i know some might disagree, and maybe me too, and think that pushing the button was not in the best interest of the island. But my point is that in order for the losties to get what they want the island needs something in return.

Another idea is that it’s only right to assume that for every death the island also gave life. Boone - the baby, Shanon - Sawyer, Eko - not quite sure but i think Desmond coming back fits in the chronology, and The actress and the chef - Naomi. Charlie - i see it as life in the form of hope (at least at where things stand now). Also, the island only took whoever, like you said, has come to terms with their inner conflict.

Some of that might have been a stretch but it’s something that i thought of as i was reading the post.

yeah the dying whenyouve accepted yourself thing sadly rings true with the ‘theyre in te after life’ theorum, in a way, doesn it. you can move on from purgatory once youve addressed your demons etc. but i think its way more interesting than that! loved eko, gonna buy the action figure now so he can talk to me haha
