There has never been so much speculation by Theorists, since the airing of the episode, Flashes Before Your Eyes, and what happened to Desmond. I dedicate this theory to tharde5 and Stip for their theories on Mind Travel.

The universe is made up of 7 planes of existence. These are, the physical plane, the astral plane, the causal plane, the akashic plane, the messianic plane and the buddhaic plane.

Neotheosophy presents the sequence Physical-Astral-Mental-Causal, in astral traveling teachings, with the causal plane being the one just above the astral plane. This is the region where memories and karmic patterns are stored, and where a practitioner can access information regarding the past and future. Bi-location is subject to a target, which can either be a person, place, event or object.

The human body is made up of electromagnetism. When Desmond turned the fail-safe key, he was met with an explosion of electromagnetism, which had built up. Until this event, he hadn’t displayed any psychic abilities, unlike Walt and Locke. Desmond had 3 long years of pushing that button and plenty of time to address his regrets about not marrying Penny. And he regretted his decision to pursue the sailboat race to prove to Widmore that he was indeed, worthy, which is what caused him to end up on “the island”. So, when this event occurred, he was immediately skyrocketed into the astral/causal realm. He was not cognizant of where he was traveling; however, it makes perfect sense that this is the place in time where he would end up.

Desmond regains consciousness on the floor of his flat, covered in red paint. To his amazement, Penny is there to comfort him and help him up. He is confused, but ecstatic at the same time. As he dresses to go to see Widmore, he looks at the clock in the bedroom. Time, 1:08! More confusion! He then becomes aware of the sound of the microwave, making the same sound as the countdown on the computer in the hatch. More confusion! Still, he can’t quite put his finger on what is so strangely familiar.

We all know about what happens during his meeting with Widmore. As Desmond leaves the building, he sees a busker on the street. Low and behold he recognizes the musician as Charlie! Desmond then becomes more cognizant of “the island”. His conscious mind is now connecting with his super conscious mind. however, Charlie does not recognize Des! It is important ot note, that the cardboard in Charlie’s guitar case has his name on it, but with an important distinction. It reads, Charlie “Hieronymous” Pace. I take this to reference “The Hieronymous Machine”, patented by its inventor, Dr. Thomas Galen Hieronymous, which allegedly worked by analogy or symbolism, being directed by ESP powers, and were self-hypnotic devices, which could raise the mental powers of a person.

Desmond is now sufficiently confused and upset, but proceeds to the jewellery store. When he tries to buy the ring, Ms. Hawking is aghast and intervenes. She steps into her role as the oracle or handler to persuade him out of his purchase. When Des needs a bit more persuading, she takes him outside to demonstrate the point of the Universe self-correcting. Des is left totally freaked out, and convinced he must have traveled back in time and discusses this with his friend, who thinks he’s bonkers! When his premonitions don’t come true at the pub, he is bewildered. When he has his photo taken with Penny, whilst wearing a RED shirt, he decides to end his relationship with her. When he goes back to the pub, his premonitions begin to come true. When Des tries to intervene to protect the pub owner from being clubbed, he gets in the way and BOOM, back to “the island”. When he regains consciousness, naked he picks up a photo of himself with Penny.

It is at this time that Desmond’s precognitive abilities begin, and his troubles. Even the most advanced Psychics have difficulty interpreting their visions 100% accurately, as they don’t happen in sequence and it’s difficult to accurately interpret the symbolisms. We certainly see this occurring with Des, when it came to his visions about Charlie. ProfOzone’s theory, “Desmond killed Charlie” is accurate. Now that Desmond realizes that the freighter is not Penny’s he will have even more regrets, believing that he killed Charlie and that he died in vain. Perhaps someone on “the island” will help Des understand, perhaps even Charlie himself, (in spirit form), or will Desmond receive this information from someone even more informed, like Ms Hawking! the question is, will Desmond travel again?

    Thanks, Prof!

  3. ProfOzone Aug 7, 2007 3:57 p.m. Comment: 3

    No no no… thank YOU

So, what’s the connection between Des taking his psychic trip and waking up with psychic powers? Or… IS that the simple connection? He was pushed into that plane and now he’s left with a connection to it?

So Desmond’s flashbacks then… they are all the “he doesn’t know about the island” kind? Desmond’s trip to another plane of existence didn’t change anything as far as the rest of the universe is concerned?

  4. mrssawyer Aug 7, 2007 4:05 p.m. Comment: 4

I second the Prof. Worth waiting for.

  5. dabiatchishere Aug 7, 2007 4:07 p.m. Comment: 5

Prof: Had Hurley have gone into the jungle sooner than he did, he would have seen Desmond, seemingly unconscious on the ground. While Desmond’s body never left “the island” he traveled into the astral/causal realms to the past, so theoretically he was in 2 places at the same time. The electromagnetism caused him to have super psychic powers, but he doesn’t know how they work. Unlike Walt and Locke who have a communication with “the island”, Desmond’s abilities are precognitive. He sees the future! I hope that’s what you were asking me for.

  6. mrssawyer Aug 7, 2007 4:07 p.m. Comment: 6

When he goes back to the pub, his premonitions begin to come true. When Des tries to intervene to protect the pub owner from being clubbed, he gets in the way and BOOM, back to “the island”. ’

Do you think Des does actually manage to intervene? If he is in fact clubbed in place of Jimmy the barman, does he not change the course of things then and there? Is he just remembering things differently now he has access to a different plane?

Gosh Dab my head hurts now!

  7. dabiatchishere Aug 7, 2007 4:13 p.m. Comment: 7

mrs: Jimmy still got hit. Des only got in the way and got hit himself. I am sure he tried to intervene to prevent it from happening, but it sent him on his way back to “the island”, where he would have gone anyway, eventually, through some other course of events.

  8. mrssawyer Aug 7, 2007 4:19 p.m. Comment: 8

    Cool thanks Dab!

  9. ProfOzone Aug 7, 2007 4:22 p.m. Comment: 9

So then… people who were in the pub when Desmond got hit… now they remember him in there ranting rather than just seeing him sit there while the other guy got hit? But then after Des got hit, he forgot all about the “remembering the island” stuff?

  10. Stip Aug 7, 2007 4:23 p.m. Comment: 10

    That was…that was… wow.

Where did you find the information on the 7 planes?

  11. TheThinker Aug 7, 2007 4:27 p.m. Comment: 11

Awesome read! I think the answer to your question, “will des travel again?” Is yep! He sure will! On a personal note, I hope he recognizes all this and actually learns to “control” it…

  12. dabiatchishere Aug 7, 2007 4:31 p.m. Comment: 12

Prof: The incident in the pub, occurred in the past, just as it did when it originally occurred. Desmond is at this point, questioning if he was actually ever on “the island” or if he is having some kind of bad dream or hallucination, I believe. Until, that is, the music starts playing, the soccer game appears as he remembered, and the guy who comes through the pub door to club the bartender, appears. He knows that something is going on at that point.

  13. dabiatchishere Aug 7, 2007 4:33 p.m. Comment: 13

Stip: If you wiki astral travel and causal travel you will get some good information. I found the link there. Sorry, I don’t have it.

  14. dabiatchishere Aug 7, 2007 4:35 p.m. Comment: 14

You know, someone just minused my theory, as I posted my last comment.

  15. ProfOzone Aug 7, 2007 4:40 p.m. Comment: 15

OK… so in the flashbacks we see of Desmond, like when he’s talking to Jack at the stadium… does he remember the time, before leaving Penny, when he felt like he’d seen all of that before?

  16. dabiatchishere Aug 7, 2007 4:49 p.m. Comment: 16

Prof: That was Jack’s flashback. When he and Desmond meet in the hatch on “the island”, they recognize each other from the stadium. So, that was just a flashback. Charlie never recognizes Desmond at all. That is why I feel, that Charlie appeared in the astral/causal realm to Desmond to trigger Desmond’s recollection of “the island”. Charlie was never in Desmond’s past.

  17. ProfOzone Aug 7, 2007 5:46 p.m. Comment: 17

Ah, well… I kinda meant… Desmond’s flashback’s in general… like when he was talking to Penny at the stadium and Jack arrived… well, you know what I mean…

But your statement that Charlie was never in Desmond’s past answers part of my question.

But when Desmond talked to Penny at the stadium (and then later Jack) did he at that time recall having a conversation with Ms. Hawking? Or was she, actually, not a part of Desmond’s past either?

  18. dabiatchishere Aug 7, 2007 5:54 p.m. Comment: 18

I apologize for not fully understanding what you meant, Prof. I am not sure if he was having a deja-vu moment, or a past recollection of those events. I have wondered, though if Des not necessarily traveling in the astral/causal realm, if perhaps he was subject to lucid dreams about the past, in that particular instance.

  19. dabiatchishere Aug 7, 2007 6 p.m. Comment: 19

kat: Thanks for your comments. I think Desmond had something going on with him, but was unaware of what it was, perhaps. If he were experiencing lucid dreaming or astral traveling in his dreams, he may not have any cognizant memories of such in his conscious memories. It may be buried in his super conscious, if that makes any sense.

  20. TheThinker Aug 7, 2007 6:11 p.m. Comment: 20

  25. jazprof Aug 7, 2007 8:55 p.m. Comment: 25

Wow Dab that was spectacular! I have a lot of questions—but maybe just ask a couple and then go wiki some stuff. Could the same electromagnetism that Des gets in such a huge dose be causing astral travelling in dreams—would tht be an explanation for various character’s visions—the visions seem to work more by symbolism rather than the clear experiences that Des has—maybe the Hieronymous reference? The whispers too? I’m just thinking now that we’re all going to go read up on those other planes—whether some of the other levels of existence will connect as well.

  26. lockeko Aug 7, 2007 9:16 p.m. Comment: 26

great read. I am still under the belief that Des didn’t really go back in time, but if he did, I like your explanation, b.c he didn’t physically leave the island. great work

  27. Stip Aug 7, 2007 9:30 p.m. Comment: 27

Dab: I reread this tonight and have a question: of all places Des could wake up, why in the flat of the apartment having just fallen off a ladder?

Having just read FlashForward, its very much like what happened in the book. For several minutes, people blacked out, fell down stairs (Boone’s Nanny), wrecked their cars (Claire), etc. I’m just wondering the significance of the apartment and the red paint.

Secondly: you capitalized the picture taken in a RED shirt, and I was looking for a counter point, but didn’t find it. I seem to remember a picture of he and Penny where he is wearnig a different color, but details fail me when I need them.

  28. dabiatchishere Aug 7, 2007 9:32 p.m. Comment: 28

jaz: I believe that all of these events do tie in together within the realms of the paranormal, but as I am learning each aspect is different from another one. I only touched on a few, mainly because they went together with the theory. As for Des., he may have had lucid dreams, and traveled before. Most of us have lucid dreams, and astral travel, but have no waking memory of them. I read that if you fall in a dream, this is you trying to get back into your physical body, or if you feel a heavy weight on your chest like someone or something is upon you, same thing. The explosion of electromagnetism automatically sent Des into that realm.

Thanks to all of you for enjoying and supporting this theory. Although, we all like to receive positive confirmation by way of a + vote, we all know that there are detractors amongst us.

P.S. I found the site, I referenced for part of this theory, it’s astralvoyage.com/projection/glossary

  29. dabiatchishere Aug 7, 2007 9:40 p.m. Comment: 29

Stip: I know that there is a significance, but can’t offer any insight. I am glad you brought up the issue of the photo’s. People have commented on how there could be more than one photo of Desmond and Penny. This is what I noted, although I don’t know the significance of the colours. Before the hatch imploded, Des places the photo of him and Penny in his pocket. When he has another photo taken with Penny he is wearing a red shirt. This is the photo he picks up when he comes to, naked in the jungle, but at the beginning of the episode, while sitting on the beach, the photo he is looking at, he is wearing a blue shirt. Were the photos part of the Casimir Effect?

Fantastic theory. Easy to read and understand. I do think Des was having some kind of precognition thing going on in the episode when he talks to Jack in the stadium.’You dont believe in miracles’ he says to him like he knows it already. Also when he is released from prison he implies he knows when he will die as he is saving “Our Mutual Friend” for it . Do you think he will still have flashes now that Charlie is gone? Once again ,really good read Dab.

    Dear dabiatchishere,

I read in your previous post that Desmond’s shirt changed color from blue to red in “flashes before your eyes.” I just rewatched that episode for my research and discovered no such thing…Someone please correct me if I’m wrong!

Wow! Have been out of the internet world for awhile. Some really great theories that’ve been posted lately! Especially this one! A very elegant way of explaining Desmond’s “time travel”. It fits perfectly into my view of the “Lost universe”.

    +∞

And for the too-complicated-for-the-average-lost-viewer-arguments I want to say that I don’t think they really care for an explanation. I think they’re pretty satisfied with the hatch imploding and that this somehow gave Desmond powers to see the future. This is at least enough of an explanation for my mother :-)

  35. YouAllEverybody Aug 8, 2007 10:26 a.m. Comment: 35

Nice post dab, very well presented. The one Des thing that confuses me is when he wakes up. Why does he wake up in the jungle away from the hatch and why is he naked? I think those are big clues as to what happened when the hatch imploded.

Also, if Des is precognitive and quite possibly could travel BACK in time (to the stadium with Jack), could he also travel forward in time?

Also, if he did travel back in time to the stadium, how does Penny know he’s there? Or are you saying that Des traveled back in time through a higher plane mentally in order to alter his path in the past (like briefly transporting his “present mind” into his “past body” to change his decisions and conversations from the past)?

  36. you_know_the_name Aug 8, 2007 12:14 p.m. Comment: 36

    Dear YouAllEverybody,

Welcome to the wonderful world of non-linear-time and time-loops/time-travel!

This is why I’m trying by best to avoid time-travel, as I believe there’s no way the writers can explain it completely, without contradicting themselves…

However, if it was a one-time event, I think it could make sense.

See my follow up post, “more flashes before your eyes”, and tell me what you think…

wtf, Roger and YouAll: Thanks for all of your comments, guys! The idea in writing this theory, was to spark some debate, and fire everybody up, and get some good theories going off of this one! The Lost writers have said, that the show can be explained by science, pseudo-science and the paranormal, so I thought I’d delve into the paranormal aspects of the show. I hope somebody else follows the paranormal aspects of the show, and spawns some interesting theories. I find them fascinating.

    Dear dabiatchishere,

You certainly fired us up! First, I post a theory that compliments yours but presents a pseudo-scientific viewpoint, rather than a paranormal one. Then, Jazprof connects the dots in his thread. Then ProfOzone comes up with a brilliant insight on the same thread, when it should have been it’s own theory!

    Everything happened for a reason?

    Dear everyone who contributed,

    Thanks, and good job!

Hey Dab! This is great!! I find this stuff fascinating too! I have been researching the pseudo-science / paranormal aspects of the show as well. And I have been to several websites that are in connection to what you are talking about. (Such as Akasha, and Ananda Bosman) Some of it is very very wierd and a little hard for me to grasp completely but maybe you can look it. I definitely see connections to Lost but I do not understand enough to try and explain it in a theory…I am working on it. Anyway, it talks about a Time Gate, Mind Travel, Harmonics, pineal gland, Twin Vortex..etc. Great Job! I really enjoyed reading this and think you are on to something for sure!! +1 from me!

Dab, you rock. Great reading. I didn’t comment too much - a lot of this stuff cramped my feeble brain.

Oh Stip! I find that very, very, difficult to believe!!!! You are as sharp and as bright as they come, believe you me! And besides that, your my Mickey Rourke!

  44. Stip Aug 8, 2007 8:57 p.m. Comment: 44

Dab: thanks for the compliment, but I’m better looking that Mickey Rourke, although I did get it - you are a very clever lady :-D

Hey, question for you. yktn posted another theory today similar to yours. I’m going to ask you the same question because I think it will be interesting to hear your take.

Have you ever read the book FlashForward by Robert Sawyer? In that book, an event happens to a character much like what happened to Desmond. Picture Des in his apartment with Penny. He’s standing on a ladder painting with red paint. The “incident” (or one like it) referred to by Dr. Marvin Candle happens on the island. The effect is felt beyond the island. Desmond blacks out. His mind is cast forward to his experience he will have on the island. The “incident” only last for a few minutes. Des wakes up on the floor of the apartment covered in red paint and begins to remember all of the things that have happened to him between then and the island. Sorry for the long buildup, here’s the question:

Was Des thrown forward (in his mind) while on the ladder or did he travel backwards to the apartment when he turned the key in the Swan?

PS: sorry I missed you at nino’s :-(

  45. dabiatchishere Aug 8, 2007 10:02 p.m. Comment: 45

Stip: In this particular case, I believe it was backwards because of what Ms. Hawkings said to Desmond about buying the ring. She told him that he doesn’t buy the ring, because pushing the button is the only truly important thing that he ever does, and if he doesn’t, she says, we’re all dead! Because you can astral travel into the past or the future, it’s difficult to understand. But, if it were the future, I doubt Charlie would have been there, as he is now dead.

BTW: Whoa! Better looking than Mickey Rourke? Say it ain’t so, because I will hunt you down! Sorry I missed you there too.

  46. you_know_the_name Aug 8, 2007 11:04 p.m. Comment: 46

    Dear Stip,

I answered your question in my post. I agree with dabiatchishere, too. However, instead of “astral travel” to the past, I’m suggesting “mind travel” to the past…

  47. dabiatchishere Aug 9, 2007 10:22 a.m. Comment: 47

Stip: I just wanted to clarify something. If you look up Mind Control in Wikipedia, Astral Projection is mentioned under that category in one section. However, mind control tends to relate more to the Sci-Fi aspects. As, I don’t feel that Lost is a story about science fiction, I would not want anyone to be confused about the two. The paranormal aspects are confusing enough. This theory is NOT about time travel. Therein, lies the distinction.

  48. Stip Aug 9, 2007 11:47 a.m. Comment: 48

Got it. It really is like the book in way. Wouldn’t it be cool if Des could begin to harness it, control it and travel to wherever, whenever he wanted?

  49. dabiatchishere Aug 9, 2007 12:13 p.m. Comment: 49

Well, I haven’t read the book, but it does sound really interesting. I would love to see Desmond harness it, and you just never know with Lost where it will go in the next few seasons! I’m certain we will be in for a real treat! They have thrown so many elements at us, already!

  50. Stip Aug 9, 2007 1:13 p.m. Comment: 50

I recommend it because there are sections that go into a lot of detail about some of the issues we debate here. I was disappointed at the ending, but, alas, not everyone can write like us LT posters! ;-)

  51. Stip Aug 9, 2007 1:18 p.m. Comment: 51

…and for the record, I’m not saying that I think Lost is copying FlashForward. I’m going to try a book recommended by MrsSawyer next. I find it interesting to see themes in literature find their way into the Lost plot. I’m still trying to figure out why the Lost writers elected to go the extremely complicated route with so many themes. Maybe they are like us: frustrated at the declining cerebral content currently available to the intellectual crowd. Doesn’t that sound rather snooty coming from someone who wears a hoo doo hat? The secret to life is balance… ;-)

  52. dabiatchishere Aug 9, 2007 1:29 p.m. Comment: 52

lol! Stip: Definitely not “too snooty” at all! I, personally feel that the writers are a lot like the viewers, and are bored with the endless drivel that is on tv. I think what is so brilliant and clever about Lost, is that within their concept, they found a way to integrate so many themes into the show, that would keep the viewers riveted, and at the same time, highly entertained. I would also say, that the writers are brilliant at marketing! Look at how many websites are dedicated to the show, for example. You really have to admire them for that! I believe, they have set the bar, for other writers to appeal to the demand. I think mindless entertainment will become a thing of the past, in the not to distant future!

  53. Stip Aug 10, 2007 3:03 p.m. Comment: 53

you got that right. As cable TV specializes to its niche audience, we’ll probably see more stations go the way of TNT “We know drama” and the SciFi channel. There are too many people that demand to get what they want for TV show producers not to go that way. Corporations also want to segregate their markets to maximize their marketing dollars. I can also envision research firms tapping into TV viewing data that tells them what demographic is watching what type of show so they can tell companies what channels would work best for their respective product.

  54. dabiatchishere Aug 10, 2007 3:14 p.m. Comment: 54

Stip: Hey, really good thoughts! Are you in marketing or something, because that was quite brilliant! But, then again, I already know you are!

I can’t answer that, but knowing what field you are in, I knew you’d be able to spot the industry lingo. Our posts are time stamped and I can’t afford my employer to know its really me. The picture on my profile is not me and my screen name has nothing to do with my real name. So you see, I’m really an international spy…

How did you know I posted something? Do you get an alert or something or do you just constantly check?

  56. dabiatchishere Aug 10, 2007 4:07 p.m. Comment: 56

I admit, I do look forward to your comments and do check to see if you have responded! I find your way of thinking quite fascinating and stimulating. Although, we are different people, I think when we find someone who is like-minded, we tend to be drawn to them naturally! Besides, that, I have to admit, I have a little crush on you! I thought I was too old for that, but apparently not! We also share a similar sense of humour. I am definitely, off the wall, and have an appreciation for a sharp wit. I find nothing else to be more sexy! Most people, don’t get that about me, but you did, so now, I am your biggest fan!

  57. dabiatchishere Aug 10, 2007 4:14 p.m. Comment: 57

LOL, Now I get it!! That is, the snorkel comments last night. I am so daft! I never checked out your profile, before. And you are a writer! I should have guessed that about you.

Hey, who’s the babe with you?? I’d like to say that looks like me too, but I am much better looking, a bit more mature, though. lol

If you really wanted to mess with my head, you should have threw up a Mickey Rourke photo!!!!

Well, your work on Tulpas and the 7 planes kinda blew me away. So I’m guessing parapsychology. Does that mean you have an inking as to how my mind works? Now that would be scary!

  68. Stip Aug 10, 2007 7:59 p.m. Comment: 68

Were you, by chance, listening to “You Raise Me Up” ? I just watched the music video. Gave me goosebumps. I wrote a short story that would go great with that song as the theme song.

That girl rocks! She has the voice of an angel!!!! I love that song!! I must go download it. I just re-listened to both groban and blunt again. Lovely! Before the night is over, you must check out a couple of comments I left on Thinkers party line.

  82. dabiatchishere Aug 10, 2007 9:16 p.m. Comment: 82

Stip: I had never heard that particular song before. It is hauntingly beautiful. It’s been added to the 7+ hours of songs that I have in my collection. I feel teary eyed. Now, you have really perked my curiosity. That’s a novel I’d like to read! What other tunes can you share with me??

  83. dabiatchishere Aug 10, 2007 9:28 p.m. Comment: 83

I have a song you might like. Download Billy Gilman, One Voice. Beautiful song!

  84. Stip Aug 10, 2007 9:31 p.m. Comment: 84

I used “My Immortal” differently than in the video. The lyrics dovetail with the story of my female protagonist whose father died of cancer and she lived through an excruciating time of his slow death. She fears she will endure the same fate. If you listen to the lyrics with that little snippet for story background, you get quite a different picture than the music video. Track 12 is the best version.

  85. Stip Aug 10, 2007 9:34 p.m. Comment: 85

Nothing beats “Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel

lockeko: I too, like Richard Marx

  88. lockeko Aug 10, 2007 9:58 p.m. Comment: 88

Are you listening to Brown Eyed Girl. I love to be in a bar at closing time and someone key up that song. Every drunk in the world thinks he/she knows the lyrics to that song. Its a great song. I love Van Morrison

  89. Stip Aug 10, 2007 9:59 p.m. Comment: 89

I also recommend “My Father’s Eyes” by Eric Clapton. I lost my father to cancer so it has special meaning to me.

  90. dabiatchishere Aug 10, 2007 10:01 p.m. Comment: 90

Stip: You were so right about that. Music really is the window to the soul! So right about Peter Gabriel. I hope you check out Van Morrison and Billy Gilman, mentioned above.

Another good song, is One, by Mary J. Blige with Bono.

Again, I feel privileged that you shared something so touching with me.

  91. Stip Aug 10, 2007 10:15 p.m. Comment: 91

One” was from that Nicholas Cage/Don Cheadle movie “Family Man” where he is given a glimpse of what his life could have been like if he didn’t leave Tea Leoni.

Oh yeah, the Billy Gilman song was great. I wasn’t expecting that, but the kid is great. We’ve got tons of Van Morrison, listen to the CD all the time.

The following is an Anonymous Quotation which I came across, some years ago. I thought you might enjoy reading.

Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the mornings hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circling flight. I am the soft star that shines at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there. I did not die.

  103. Stip Aug 11, 2007 3:29 p.m. Comment: 103

wow, that’s beautiful. I listened to that REM song last night. You’re right, its a very nice song, but don’t weep for me. My father’s death was a LONG time ago. I’m okay. :-)

Kat, COME ON! Give it a rest or we’re just going to have to take our conversation where the Pearl can’t reach. And then where would you be? No, Desmond had psychic powers WAY before the hatch ever imploded.

He drew the hatch mural, which this site analyzes in great detail and shows how there are pictures in it that explain A LOT of what goes on in seasons 2 and 3.

I think Desmond’s subconscious is what traveled to the past, not his actual physically body. The implosion and electromagnetic energy caused his mind to shift to a different Desmond in a different time. What we saw was future Desmond’s mind traveling back to a past Desmond. Make sense?
