Really crazy theory that I can’t get out of my head.

I think after all their previous studies, Dharma (or wathever it’s name on the real world) created a way to translate all of reality into a computer program. For living organisms they could have made photographs of their minds. By seeing the contrast between arrived electromagnetic waves and sent waves they could make this photo (kind of a fotocopy), the waves passing through a brain. Then they could digitalize this photo to put it into a computer program. They digitalize a person’s mind. They also put bodies, trees, etc. on the program. “The others” stands for “the loaders”, and the losties stands for “the loaded”, and all the characters we see are inside the pre-loading program. I think the losties died on the incident and after that were loaded into the program (this means they can also load dead people). Some other “Dharma” persons still on the real world made photographs of their minds and pre-loaded the losties into the pre-loading universe, that is the island. Probably the others can still communicate with the real world, but doubt it’s conventional communication. In the pre-loading universe the loaders (the others) have the task of choosing Adam & Eve, to load them into the final program. Of course first they will have to proove themselfs “good” ( loaders find out by putting losties to the test), but judging a person is too much for a computer, so the loaders loaded themselfs on the pre-loading program to do it (oh yeah). This would explain why Locke can walk, why not being rescued, etc. The purpouse of all this is to take the world into a psychic level, a world inside a computer that can live after physical self-destruction and contains only people who won’t repeat humanity’s mistakes. This explains why Mikhail’s computer cheated the chess game. This would also explain the phrase “only fools are enslaved by time and space” So, people dead on the island are rejected. So when the world will end it will be the end of flesh and bone, but not of mind!!! That’s why the skeletons, Adam & Eve, will be important in the finale, as a symbol for the end of flesh and bone and symbolizing the 2 people chosen to repopulate the virtual “earth”. The loaders (the others) are ex “dharma” scientists who have chosen to act as judges, or have been incorporated gradually to the program as they were being chosen on the real world.

Another possibility is that the loaders are just correcting the loaded, that bit necessary to make them acceptable on the virtual reality, or that are assembling two “perfect” beings with pieces of the losties, to create Adam & Eve. So people who die on the island enter the VR OR get rejected, I tend to think that loaders are recombining pieces, so people who die, “die”.

Phylosophical implications permeate the whole show and are enormous… i.e. what if our world is a virtual reality based on the real world? We can imagine it could be true the bible is telling real stories (the story of the virtual reality) . So there’s a compromise between science and religions cause both are telling the truth, just that religions refers to the the virtual reality and science to the physical world behind it). Religion and science are the black & white simbols (or VR and reality).

In additions, when real

PS: I still don’t know about the statue, the infertility problem, etc.

Interesting thoughts, Leo, but what could it be the purpose of preserve mankind as a mind reality? Are our minds capable of reproduction, for instance? This could make a connection with the dying moms, but it seems weird to me. Besides, if our planet is demolished, where these Dharma fellows could place the huuuuuuuuge server to contain “Island 2.0”? And who will take care of it? I mean, who will run, time to time, things like “Anti-Others 2.0”, “Smoke-thing update.exe” and so on?

Furthermore, it sounds like put in prison the whole human race… What about the Universe –the real one- which is the ultimate goal for us to survive –not only because of the self-destruction thing, but for the Sun getting dried out as well, for instance?

I give you a 5, nonetheless, because your idea is very suggestive.

This is TV, they wouldn’t make it that complicated. A great theory, don’t get me wrong, but a little far fetched….not that I have any idea what’s going on. ;)

Um…okay, but what about the babies/pregnancy issue? Where is the world does that fit in?

I don’t really know… but any explanation that fits another theory should also fit this one, i guess.

Maybe i will end up on a psychiatric institute repeating the numbers…but I’m still convinced about this theory. I would like some more comments though =/

I like this theory. I think a number (no pun intended) of other ideas could fit in. For instance,

Re: the babies. This would make sense - a baby created in a computer might be significantly different (being a human 2.0, since it’s not from the real world) and thus a “downloaded” woman might not be able to sustain it.

And re: the Others and Desmond seeing/manipulating the future, they may have found ways to tap into the data stream and to use that connection to be more powerful than your average Lostie (this is similar to Neo’s ability in the Matrix). This would also explain other bizarre abilities - like why Juliet is an amazing trained fighter, why people have visions of their parents, why Hurley gets the car to start using his will etc.
