The Others obviously posess some advanced technologies but are lacking in other basic ones.

In the episode where Jack tries to save one of the Others (I forget who) he asks for a defibulator and Juliet tells him that they dont have one. She suggests that their resources are low and that they don’t have a fully functional medical facility. Deception? Why let one of their own die just to give Jack the impression that they are struggling in that regard? Why would they be lacking in ANY resources if they have access to the mainland? hmm.. any thoughts?

It just seems strange to me that they would let someone die just to make Jack think that they are worse off than they are, especially since they know that Jack will ebentually be coming back to the barracks with them and see that they are a fully functional community that wants for nothing.

    Perhaps, somehow, Colleen isn’t dead.

Perhaps the truth was that they just couldn’t get the equipment to Jack in time (it being very well hidden), and since Colleen was a goner anyway, might as well take advantage of the situation and lie.

Either way… you make an excellent point here, I think.

The others” were lying to Jack about their lack of modern medical eqiupment and technology. They don’t want any of “the losties” to know who “they really are” and what “they’re really capable of”. It’s all part of their manipulation, I think.

The 4/25 episode suggests that we might be correct, dabiatchishere, re: the equipment just being hidden. More to the point, “well hidden”… so that it would have been very difficult for them to save Colleen.

Then again, it does leave open the question of whether or not she was “sacrificed”. Very interesting question indeed.
