Alright Im going to do something I dont really agree with. Im going to write a possibility theory that I myself truly dont agree with. Why? Because doing this allows for good debate with others who either agree or disagree and it can help us to totally trash an idea or keep it in our pocketsses (isnt that right Golem?….im a loser I know).
I want to post this idea even though its origin is not my own idea. I read it on this site, Im sorry I dont remember who posted this first, but just humor me here. There has been much speculation over Locke pertaining to his most recent actions on the island. Ex, leaving with the others, blowing up the sub, killing Mikhail, and so on. There has been a theory that Locke was planted on this island by the DI (Dharma Initiative) as a one man commando team to take out the others they lost the purge to. All of this is only applicable if we are to truly believe there was a “purge”, a war between the others and the DI. I for one believe there was. And if so it could make sense.
Think about it…..we never see the events that take place after Locke leaves the walkabout office and appears in the airport of Oceanic Airlines. You can almost picture the events taking place….Locke leaves the walkabout office, angry, frustrated, and broken hearted. He wheels about on the streets of Melbourne and somehow comes across an advertisement asking if “you would like to save the world”. Or perhaps he just comes into contact with a member of the DI. Now you ask, what would be Lockes motivation to do this? If someone told you they know of a place where you could walk again, forever….you just need to take a plane ride….wouldnt you do it? If you had no other options left? I know I would. So the DI informs him of the history of the purge and what must be done to regain their territory. A one man commando could prove much more efficent , under the guise of a plane crash survivor, then a squadron of DI freedom fighters.
How does this relate to Lockes actions on the island? Why do you think he was so interested in the swan? Because he knew of the DI and thier stations on the island. However, what he wasnt informed of was what exactly they were doing in these stations. Thus we can understand why pushing that button was so important to him at first. Because he KNEW the DI was real and was still out their in the real world. However after he saw the PEARL orientation…..his faith was lost, believing the people he works for to be nothing more than a bunch of cooke (spelling?) scientists performing peep show expirements! However, after the swan imploded he once again believes in his employers.
How does this relate to his most recent actions? He wanted to kill Mikhail because he knew that Mikhail was a traitor to the DI, once a member, but left and joined the others….who I believe also were once the DI. Why did he want to blow the sub? Well we dont even know if he truly blew the sub….something tells me he did not. Why is he going with the others? To spy on them for his employers. To learn of them and their tactics perhaps. Plus, think about the FLAME station…..Locke knew about the c4. He knew exactly what he was doing when he pressed 77. He went straight to it! Sure his face may have looked surprised….and perhaps he was surprised that the interface would really pop up….but he knew what he was doing.
Who knows about any of this really? Personally….I dont buy it. But it is a neat sequence of ideas no? And dont be to critical please, as this is just a way for us to throw around ideas….nothing more. I just want to know what everyone else thinks…..to either credit or discredit this theory. Sound off all. OH! And if any of you guys, who like any of half the stuff I post on here, want to message me about any of it, you can hit me up on my myspace page by sending me a message or whatever. Just click my name on this site for the link. Out.

I guess for me, lostboy, there are just dozens and dozens of little things that contradict this idea, not just one thing.
Sorry I can’t think of anything more interesting to say than that. :-(
Yeah Ozone I got a many o’things to contradict it too. Just wanted to rant a little about the possibility though.
Right. I was hoping I could come up with something interesting to help you get that debate rolling, but I came up with nothing dramatic, really. Just small, obvious things… that, incidentally, don’t really prove anything.
The Others have the precious… and the DI wants it back! The Others are tricksey.
