what ,in the end, turns out to be a ridiculous/ironic coincidence, just like life is.

Basically my approach towards the happenings in Lost demystifies the magic that surrounds the island substantially.
In my humble opinion the explanation behind the show has a lot less to do with supernatural powers and mystical happenings as with every days’ wonders. What happens on Lost is a huge, huge coincidence, while the way things are presented to us amount the stunning effect Lost leaves. So what’s happening on the Island isn’t a bigger coincidence (in fact it’s much smaller) than us living on this planet, in this Solar System, in this Universe. To me it looks’ like the numbers, the plane crash on that precise Island and the crossing in their ‘prior’ lives (as seen in the flashbacks) (just to name a few) are casual.
To me there is no clear evidence these ‘Others’ where on that Island before our plain-crash victims, even Rousseau, arrived. They (the Others) where set up (probably by themselves) to maintain the frame that surrounds the massive experiment that’s developing on the Island. In order to fundament this mini theory about the experiment, I relay on the cloaking device theory, [update] the psychological experiment theory, the fake tasks attached to the fake hatches, the fake Others and the Hanso Foundation (website) among others. Even Dharma, in my eyes, is part of this mirage. Some might say that the Hanso Foundation is embedded in the Dharma Initiative, but I don’t see it that way. Moving on, I’ll explain my point of view with a few examples. The Others are in charge of executing the aforementioned Experiment which aims at very similar, if not parallel, goals the Hanso Foundation stated (might be that the Others embody the Hanso Foundation). It looks like the experiment focuses (amongst other goals) on health-improving and life-prolonging techniques (some are magnetic) featuring tests on a wide array of living creatures (from polar bears, through adult humans and finally young humans). The only reason I can bring up for the plain crash is the previous magnetic field disruption caused by Desmond after taking down his buddy Kelvin – to me, this is a coincidence. The numbers where arbitrarily chosen for ‘our’ hatch and escape the Island through the radio signal. The fact that Hurley wins the lottery thank to those numbers, earning so much bad luck in return, for me, is a coincidence too. After all winning the lottery IS a huge coincidence despite the numbers you choose for one or another reason. Coming to talk to the various intersections the main characters run through in their flashbacks … those take place on a daily basis in real life. The clue is they aren’t pointed out the way they are on the show.
So to sum it up, there is a rational (nothing bizarre) explanation for every surreal event in the show. That’s why I understand the slogan of the show slightly different, meaning that, everything happens for a reason (like having faith, belive in fate) that we don’t understand at first, what ,in the end, turns out to be a ridiculous/ironic coincidence, just like life is.
There are so many more things I could bring in to support my theory but I am sure you will come up with so many more to refute it. Can’t wait for the posts (hope there will be any)
