Why do this…?
— Station0TheHub
First the island healed him of his paralysis, and gave him a purpose for living.
The island (or what ever is doing this) manipulated Locke into finding the hatch, and continued to increase his faith by giving him visions of the plane crash.
Then his confrontation with the Smoke Creature (possibly Cerberus) which i presume (like Eko) saw his past and his future. Next it tryed to take him Take him where?
Then the island got him to get dynamite to blow open the hatch.
Then the island lead Eko and john to The Pearl which destroyed his faith.
To the point where he destroyed The Swan.
Why do this…?

i dont think its the island itself but whomever or whatever is doing this is definitly manipulating locke i totally agree good work!!
I don’t think it’s the island either. All those things are personality traits he had off the island.
Thats why i said or whatever is doing this!
Yes and thats what the island or whatever is there is is using to manipulate him, guiding him to do what it wants. The destruction of the hatch
which the island or whatever is using to do what it wants
sounds interesting, but i have to say i don’t see it. people who are stranded explore. people who explore find things. people who find things are curious. curious people with brains find a way to unlock found locked things. i don’t think a supernatural force is at work taking away lockes ability to act on his own. more like he gives the island credit for his own intelligence.
Yer but not in the way locke did. i mean he found the sawn by droping a tourch an it was fate that that happened.
